Overview
The Competent Person is required to be able to identify potential dangers of all excavation worksites as it relates to the OSHA Subpart P – Excavation standards; and enforce the regulated trench safety best practices on all excavation projects. This includes knowing the dynamics of soil pressure, how to classify soil conditions, and how to properly slope a trench or use an appropriate trench safety device such as a trench shield or hydraulic shoring.
